Above Hawke's Bay is the fruit of two pastimes, photography and flying. I've been taking pictures for many years and flying for a few, but it wasn't until I became the guardian of the Cessna 150 Charlie Sierra Tango in 2005, followed by the arrival of my first digital SLR in 2006, that the trickle of pictures turned to a flood and this site became a necessity.
Aircraft and photographer are both based in Napier and the territory covered is generally between
Waikaremoana and Mahia in the north, Central Hawke's
Bay to the south and the ranges (and occasionally the mountains) to the west. The site will be revised regularly as long as the aircraft and the photographer remain airworthy. However, not all of the photographs are taken from the air - ground shots are included where they complement the aerials.
Above Hawke's Bay is not a commercial operation so you won't find price lists or order forms. However I will do my best to accommodate anyone wanting a print, or licence to use an image in a publication. Free
use, subject to the standard copyright acknowledgement, may be available if a picture might serve in the public interest (photographer's discretion, of course). For more details go to the technical page.
Finally, like most pilots I have a fascination with and healthy respect for the weather. I'll keep a page for interesting conditions, even if these photographs are not quite of the usual standard. Needless to say "interesting" conditions are seldom CAVOK (ceiling and visibility OK) - a lot of the weather pictures
are and will continue to be taken from the safety of the ground.
